Our Journey

Our History

From 2005 to today, tracing the evolution of excellence in thermal analysis research at UVT.

CCATM Certificate

As the "date of birth" is 2005, together with the steps of accreditation and rebirth of CNCSIS, the history of the Research Center for Thermal Analysis in Environmental Problems (CCATM) can be traced as an organic evolution of excellence in chemistry-physics at UVT, marked by several major stages.

1. Beginnings and Consolidation (2000s)

The center was born within the Faculty of Chemistry, Biology, Geography, crystallizing around a group of researchers passionate about physical chemistry and thermodynamics.

Core

The activity was driven by the need to study the stability of materials (from pharmaceuticals to construction materials) using thermal analysis.

Central Figures

A determining role in the development and visibility of this center was played by Prof. Univ. Dr. Titus Vlase and Prof. Dr. Vlase Gabriela, who coordinated the research directions and transformed the laboratory into a national landmark.

Technical Equipment

A key moment in its history was the acquisition of the first high-performance thermal analysis equipment (Perkin-Elmer systems for TG/DSC) around 2006-2007, which allowed the transition to international-level research.

2. National and International Recognition (2010 - 2020)

During this period, the center has become an important node in the scientific network in Romania.

  • It has become a frequent host for prestigious events, such as the "Eugen Segal" Thermal Analysis and Calorimetry Symposium. The organization of these conferences (including recent editions, such as the one in 2024) confirms the center's status as a leader in the field.
  • The center's researchers have intensively published studies on the thermal degradation of polymers and waste, aligning with global "Green Chemistry" trends.

3. ICAM Era (2023 - Present)

The most important recent chapter in the center's history is its integration into the new Institute for Advanced Environmental Research (ICAM) of UVT.

  • Inauguration of ICAM (December 2023): With the completion of this major infrastructure project (an investment of approximately 28 million lei), the Thermal Analysis Center has become one of the essential components of the institute.
  • This integration has brought access to new, ultra-modern laboratories, located in the dedicated building on Oituz Street, and has allowed the expansion of research teams by attracting new funds and international collaborations.

Our Legacy

The history of the center is one of the transition from a well-equipped faculty laboratory to a research pillar in an institute of European scope, under a constant leadership that has prioritized the study of materials for a cleaner environment.
